Holy Hell people, what happened last week? What a meltdown! Last week, it seemed like the collective of all things gaming, came together to burn everything down at once. What happened you might ask? Well let's begin.
First off, not sure if you heard, but THQ Nordic, the guys who have been buying up properties like mad, have been outed as sex predators, right? Well okay, not actually! But some of the most whacked out Twitter accounts would leave you to believe that if you didn't get the full story. So let's dive into that. THQ Nordic, actually has a couple of branches aka, "sister" companies. So while the main group, the ones who have been actually acquiring most of the properties like Darksiders, Biomutant, etc, are actually THQ Nordic AB. The ones that set up an AMA on what I believe is to be an up and coming game, was THQ Nordic GmbH. Confused yet? So moving on, apparently, both companies, and maybe more, use the same THQ Nordic account...for some reason? This led to THQ Nordic's main twitter account tweeting out that they were doing an AMA on 8chan. Of course, the internet melted down, somewhat for good reason, as there are about 1,329 different places that would be infinitely better then 8chan. Why? Well because 8chan was told to have the worst of the worst from the dark web. Stuff like child porn, KKK and Neo Nazi shit, and any other vile thing you can think of. I think it was 2015 when Washington Post wrote an article about it, detailing the crazy shit they found on that very site. Hell, last time I checked, Google fucking delisted it! So of course this was a BIG problem, as why you wouldn't use, I don't know, Reddit at LEAST, is beyond myself, and pretty much everyone else. They tried to apologize, but of course, things rang a bit empty when they still haven't deleted the initial post, and even though they knew "nothing" of the "history" of the site, somehow had someone ready to take care of "the nasty stuff" according to several different tweets. Look, it's hard to tell how this spiraled out of control, but I think the people trying to out right ban THQ Nordic for ONE boneheaded ploy, is being silly and the assault campaign that's been happening over on Twitter has been getting out of hand, as some even want to shut the whole thing down. To me this is WAY out there, and even though this is bad, not enough to throw how many 1000's of people now, out of a job. That's just dumb.
Next note, Anthem, the game I love to hate, and I hate to love, is apparently up to some real weird shit. It was starting to be noted I think I Saturday night/Sunday morning, but people on Reddit were complaining about their PS4 Pro, and Xbox One X consoles being shutdown while playing Anthem. We aren't talking about a little kick to the main screens, OH no, we are talking HARD crash, that even shuts the whole system down, like "someone pulling the plug" as they put it on Reddit recently.
Before anyone tries to say it, no it isn't a dust issue, or a model issue, it's happening to every model, type, and year. Something so wild, even Jeff Gerstman from Giant Bomb was saying he's never seen anything like it. What the Hell? I had my issues with Anthem, and if you haven't seen it, I made a review on my YouTube Channel if you would like to check it out, but this missed the review, as it was recorded Friday morning before all this nonsense started to happen. There are literally hundreds of people now, saying their consoles have at least shut off completely, and dozens of those, have said their consoles have completely been bricked now.
Once again, what the HELL happened? There is SOME speculation, as some think it's just causing the consoles to overheat, and fry everything inside, but then the bigger question becomes, why the Hell is it doing that, and how do you even fix that? However, some have gone on to say, that if it was indeed an overheating issue, that an error code would have popped up? So your guess, is as good as mine. So if you do end up picking it up anyways, be careful. This is a PSA, and Bioware as a whole, or any of the big wigs that work there, have said ANYTHING about this. Be careful.
How much would you be willing to spend on a Season Pass? $20? $25? $30? In an age in which we are seeing more and more "free" DLC like with Resident Evil 2's Remake, and the "Live Services" of Anthem and Battlefield V, it seems even crazy to think about spending $50 on Call of Duty's crappy Season Pass, right? Well Koei Tecmo seems to not only have NOT gotten that message, the don't really fucking care at all. Late last week, it was discovered that Dead Or Alive 6, would come with a Season Pass. Already a "pass" from me, but whatever, how much does it cost? $93.00.
No joke. $92.99 to be exact, and it even says Pass 1, as if to let you know there will be more! Holy mothballs Batman, that's $30 more then the BASE GAME. Not to mention, there is a Deluxe edition of the game too, and it's still only $79.99! What the FUCK?! To make it even worse, the pass only has 2 new characters, while it boasts 62 COSTUMES!
@DGW*#(W(S(*D!!!
This is outrageous, and completely uncalled for, but then, as some of us started to dig more to talk about this, we discovered something even more awful.
Dead Or Alive 5 had DLC too, it had something like 70+ pieces of DLC over it's lifetime and iterations, for a whopping $1,289! I'm not kidding, go onto steam right now, and you can even look it up. It makes me sick just thinking about it.
Honestly, I've never been a huge fighting game fan, and I know not all companies do this, as I feel like NetherRealm's Studios and Arc Systems have done more of what's right by their customers, and charged fair, but honest DLC, mixed with regular updates like new arenas, modes, and costumes. So to see a fully priced game like this, charge 30% MORE then it's base game for basically costumes is nuts, and anyone that is a fan of DOA, needs to put their foot down on this craziness. Who is paying for this? Seriously? Is it because they have sexy costumes? Because porn is free guys. Come on. This isn't customer friendly, and people shouldn't be spending ANY of their hard earned money on this. This is what's wrong with the industry, and why I even made my YouTube channel, and this blog space.
So that is all from me this week, I hope you found this helpful. But as always, this is just one man's opinions, and I do really love hearing all of yours. What are your takes on the stories shared here today? What would you like to see me talk about next? Let me know in any of my comments sections, and I'll talk to you guys soon. Much love all!
